Getting The Most Out Of A Virtual Design Consultation: Q & A with Lieve —

Q: Why should I invest in my space? Interior design isn’t something I am used to spending money on…

A: What you surround yourself with at home is in direct correlation to how you feel, particularly in an everyday way. Often times we buy something quickly to fill a need, only to find out it doesn’t fit, or isn’t comfortable or isn’t the best in quality. This common mistake of then realizing money was not well-spent is frustrating and can be easily avoided. By taking the time to find the correct pieces – and often the right designer – you can get it right the first time, enabling you to invest correctly in your home and most importantly yourself.

Q: Where in my home should I start? Do I need to spend a lot of money to feel good in my space?

A: You should start where it matters to you. In other words – where you tend to spend the most time or with what you are most frustrated with. Using these initial clues, can help you begin to solve these dilemmas well – and have fun doing so.

And since it is more important to be thoughtful about how you spend your money when it comes to design, you need not always spend a lot to make a big change.

Q: What design services do you offer?

A: All and everything. That is to say, we mostly provide full service (concept to implementation) for our clients with white glove, high end service, but I also consult and help solve portions of design issues and serve as an educator and a guide.

Q: What does a virtual consultation look like?

A: $375 for 90 minutes. Anything beyond that is specific to that project – dependent on scope. We tailor each project to each need. The first meeting serves as an initial consultation that allows us to create a specific plan that has mutual goals in mind moving forward.

Q: How do you set up a virtual consultation?

A: You reach out! Head to our website and click BOOK in the upper-right corner to get directly on my calendar. I believe in a one on one approach, so I look forward to a very personal process with you.

Q: Has your philosophy changed during this time?

A: It hasn’t changed. It is still a conversation, and it is about getting to know you as an individual, and what barriers you may be facing. This barrier can be physical or mental. It is important to know this session is sort of like a therapy session. We are here to help you feel good and get it right the first time.

Q: How would you describe your design style?

A: My love for a variety of eras and styles puts me squarely in a playful category. Not afraid to mix color and pattern alongside clean lines and palette cleansers – so I’d say a modernist maximalist.

Q: What makes you stand apart from other interior designers?

A: What makes me different, is my wide knowledge of styles and historical context, as well as my ease in mixing pattern, color and texture. Equally, I am a risk-taker and serve as a guide to help others learn more about themselves stylistically which also makes me unique.

Q: Where do you find inspiration?

A: It might sound cliché to say everywhere – but for me this is really true. I find inspiration in old and new, ugly and beautiful and cultural diversity. Having grown up between two continents, with a strong interest in history and philosophy has made me pull from all sorts of wonderful places. If you have an openness to it all – it begins to define and tailor your tastes.

Q: What’s Turnstyle’s aesthetic?

A: Yours! We have a broad understanding of historical and modern design and we are here to interpret your style through our bold and unusual way of seeing things. Whether you prefer contemporary, vintage, traditional, or anything in between, we are experts at translating what you love into something entirely unique.
